The
most recent edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology
Association, took place in Las Vegas, Nevada January 9-12, 2018.
Reports claim that Samsung Electronics unveiled a foldable smartphone privately
to select clients on the second day of the trade show.
During
the private meeting, Samsung unveiled both infolding and outfolding
smartphones, sources told The Korea
Herald. The curvature rate of the infolding type is more drastic
than that of the outfolding type but in terms of durability, the outfolding
type is recommended to those who are looking for a more advanced
next-generation technology.
Samsung
also reportedly shared the launch schedule during the meeting. A source told
the publication that Samsung Display had announced that it has developed a
7.3-inch foldable panel that are scheduled to be produced later in 2018.
Another
source told the publication that compared to CES 2017, Samsung attracted more
clients to the private meeting. The phone development is said to be almost
finished and the infolding type is expected to be produced first, possibly in
early November 2018.
Meanwhile,
on January 12, 2018, officials from Samsung and South Carolina celebrated the
first washing machines made at the Korean tech giant’s home appliance manufacturing plant in Newberry.
It is the first appliance manufacturing plant in the United States and it
currently employs more than 540 workers, most of whom are local residents.
“Let's
make sure nothing, nothing slows us down,” The Post and
Courier quoted Samsung Electronics president Hyun Suk Kim as
saying. He described the high-tech plant as one of the best of the best
factories in the world.
The
administration of President Donald Trump proposed new tariffs on Samsung. For
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, this is bad both for the state and the
country.
